Professor Matthew Brown's new blog

Professor Matthew Brown of Bristol University sent me a link to a new blog he is starting called The Bolivarian Times.  Bookmark it as it looks like it will be a great source of English language information.  Don't despair when you first go there and everything is in Spanish!  Just scroll down and the same post appears in English.

Professor Brown has published many works focused on the British and Irish Legions.  He and Professor John Lynch are arguably the 2 most important English language researchers in the world on the topic of South American independence.  I used a couple of his books in "Adventures of the British & Irish Legions", especially the fascinating "Adventuring through Spanish Colonies".  I caution that it is a scholarly read but there is so much information packed in there regarding the sociological aspects of the subject that it's not even funny.  Professor Brown has also developed a database with the names of over 3,000 men who served in the conflict, including notes of their service.  He hopes this blog helps expand this database and encourage genealogical research into the British and Irish mercenaries.
